The Macpherson Report into the police’s handling of the death of Stephen Lawrence recommended a 'zero tolerance' approach to racism in society. 

This panel will debate whether Britain and its public bodies have changed in acknowledging and tackling racism since the report's publication.

Chaired by John Finnie MSP, Convener of the Justice Sub-Committee on Policing, the panel includes: 

  • Jatin Haria, Executive Director for the Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights  
  • Dr Katy Sian, Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of York  
  • Professor Nasar Meer, Professor of Race, Identity and Citizenship at the University of Edinburgh      

This event is held in partnership with the Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights for Black History Month 2019.
