The race to the moon and the moon landing in 1969 were fuelled by Cold War rivalries. Fifty years on, dominance in space is back on the political agenda.

There are big political questions related to the future of space travel including:

  • the space arms race
  • space tourism
  • space as an untapped resource

Join the panel as they debate whether further space exploration will lead to opportunities or threats.

Chaired by Christine Grahame MSP, Deputy Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, this panel includes:

  • Sue Nelson, science journalist, broadcaster and author of Wally Funk’s Race for Space
  • Dr Bleddyn Bowen, Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Leicester
  • Dr Stuart Eves, Space Satellite-System Engineer
